Van Gogh Museum

The Van Gogh Museum is a Dutch museum dedicated to the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh.

The Van Gogh Museum makes the life and work of Vincent van Gogh, as well as the art of his time accessible for a big audience, to inspire them and to enrich them. The museum has a big permanent collection, but also temporary and varying exhibits. Click here to see which exhibits are presented now.

Collection

The collection by the Van Gogh Museum does not only contain paintings of the painter himself, but is also complemented by other pieces of art. Amongst these works, you will find: pieces from his artistic friends, his big examples, and the collection French and Japanese prints. This art is present in the museum to give a better image of Vincent van Gogh and his inspiration. De collection contains around two-hundred paintings, five-hundred drawings and seven-hundred letters by Vincent van Gogh. The collection French and Japanese prints were collected by Vincent Van Gogh himself. The museum owns several of his most famous works, including ‘The Potato Eaters’, ‘Sunflowers’, ‘Almond Blossoms’, and ‘Wheat Field with a Lark’.

The life of Vincent

Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) is the most famous artist from the Netherlands. Vincent’s professions went from youngest servant in an art trade, to school teacher, from book seller, to preacher. He did not decide to become an artist untill the age of 27. This decision has had a lot of influence on the international art history.

The mission of MuseumTV is to introduce art and culture to the biggest audience possible. We do this on our joint video on demand platform for Dutch museums. Through our partners we bring the platform to the attention of the Dutch public actively.
