Museum Prinsenhof Delft

The beginning of the Prinsenhof

Prinsenhof in Delft was once a court and a monastery: The Sint-Agatha monastery. After the reformation in the second half of the 16the century, the building was split up in two separate parts. In one part of the building, the monastery was still in use. The other part became the court of Prince William the Silent, who very often stayed in the Sint-Agatha monastery between 1572 till 1584. After the murder of William the Silent, the building was donated to the city government. At first, the building was used for different purposes but it became a museum in 1887.
