Kunsthal Rotterdam

Kunsthal Rotterdam

Kunsthal Rotterdam was founded in 1992 and immediately occupied a unique position within the Dutch cultural landscape.

The Kunsthal displays high-contrast and high-profile exhibitions. There are always several exhibitions running simultaneously, which are paired with matching activities. Kunsthal Rotterdam is different from other museums, because they do not have their own permanent collection, hence the name Kunsthal, which simply means art space. They utilize the freedom that comes with this, to program their art gallery differently each time. By working together with a large gathering of (cultural) institutions, museums, artists and companies in the Netherlands and abroad, prestigious exhibitions, still unknown oeuvres, intimate presentations and unexpected thematic exhibitions are on display in the Kunsthal every year. Not only does Kunsthal Rotterdam host exhibitions from big names; they also present special discoveries. The exhibitions are of high quality and offer space for current events and personal stories. The Kunsthal is like a ‘magic box’ with international allure, where crossovers between different artistic disciplines can constantly be discovered. There is room for new ideas and for surprising presentation forms.

Building

Kunsthal Rotterdam is one of the icons of modern architecture and is visited by many architecture lovers from all over the world. It was designed in 1988-1989 by architect Rem Koolhaas, together with project architect Funinori Hoshino. The architecture attracts significant international attention because of, but not limited to, the innovative use of materials, the location of the entrance and the steep ramps. The Kunsthal officially opened its doors on November 1, 1992.

The mission of MuseumTV is to introduce art and culture to the biggest audience possible. We do this on our joint video on demand platform for Dutch museums. Through our partners we bring the platform to the attention of the Dutch public actively.
